Evoqua's 2015 sustainability summary

Transforming water, enriching life; that's what we do at Evoqua. As a result, much of what we do is linked to sustainability and the environment. We place an emphasis on helping customers reduce their environmental footprint and comply with environmental standards, and doing these things ourselves.


ABOUT THE summary

We recently released our 2015 Sustainability Summary. The summary outlines our company's purpose, mission, vision, values and our commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability on a social level. The summary also highlights the steps we took in 2015 to become a more sustainable company.

Here are some of the areas we are proud to have made great strides in during 2015:



We have been making our 130 locations across North America more energy efficient by:

  • Switching to more energy efficient lighting
  • Improving building HVAC systems
  • Installing energy efficient climate control systems

In recent years the number of cooling days (days above 65 degrees Fahrenheit when AC might be used) has increased. Even though temperatures increased, we were able to maintain or decrease the amount of electricity used in our facilities.

This was the case at our Holland, Michigan location. At this facility we were able to maintain our electricity usage, despite a 6% year over year increase in the number of cooling days.




As a part of our sustainability efforts, we are striving to reduce waste and conserve resources. Between 2013 and 2015 we saw an 18% reduction in solid waste disposal at our U.S. manufacturing facilities. We were able to achieve this reduction in waste by implementing recycling programs and using fewer/recycling packaging and shipping materials.

At our Holland facility we sort all of our recyclable materials into pallets on a trailer that is parked on site at all times.


Our recycling efforts are not just limited to packaging materials. At our facility in Roseville, Minnesota we treat and recover Cadmium, Chrome, Copper, Lead, Magnesium, Nickel and Zinc from samples sent to us by customers.



Reducing our carbon footprint, and helping our customers reduce theirs, is very important to us. One way we reduce our carbon footprint is by actively participating in carbon reactivation. The carbon reactivation process involves taking spent activated carbon, reactivating it and using it as a treatment medium in industries like:

  • Municipal drinking water
  • Food & beverage
  • Chemical
  • Petroleum
