The Importance of Environmental Management for Your Industry & Water Intake Systems
Sustainability. This term is becoming more and more important in today's marketplace. Many businesses (Evoqua included) are placing more of an emphasis on reducing their environmental impact by using fewer resources, reducing waste and streamlining processes.
Another way that businesses are showing their commitment to sustainability and environmental protection is to become ISO 14001 certified.
One branch of ISO standards is ISO 14000. These standards and guidelines to help organizations with environmental management efforts. ISO 14001 standards fall under the ISO 14001 umbrella.
ISO 14001 outlines the requirements of an environmental management system (EMS). So what exactly is an environmental management system? An EMS is a systematic plan meant to help an organization deal with regulatory demands and improve health and safety practices.
Plan - identify environmental aspects of the organization that will be included in the EMS
Do - implementation of the ISO 14001 standards within an organization
Check - evaluate if agreed upon targets are being met
Act - management reviews the EMS to see if it is working and suggests any changes that need to be made
ISO and water intake systems
As a part of developing an EMS, an organization must consider all environmental issues that are relevant to their operations, such as :
impacts on wildlife
water and sewage issues
This is where water intake systems and traveling water screens (particularly if those screens are equipped with fish protection) come into play. As water intake equipment can help organizations deal with all of the issues listed above.
